Our luxurious apartment “De Peerdestal� ("The Horsestabe") is in fact a big, very comfortable hotelroom with an extra room for 2 persons. It has a.o. audio-visual equipment, VCR with a fully equipped kitchen/dining room.

You find our apartment in a centuries-old farm, tucked away behind trees and bushes in a wonderful, quiet spot in a farming area surrounded by the villages Kloosterburen, Wehe-den Hoorn, Eenrum and Pieterburen. Nowadays de BroeksterMaar is a beautiful converted farm-house with numerous facilities. Weather permitting you can have a lovely time sitting on the terrace sheltered by trees in our nicely laid out garden. Our house is situated at the Broekstermaar, a very quiet stream which was once part of the watercourse of the Hunze river. Many centuries ago, when this landscape still resembled the present Wadden area, these ‘maars’ were the channels between islands and sandbanks.

In the house smoking is not admitted.

Local Area Details

The house directly leads to canoe and fishing water and the surroundings are perfect for biking and hiking.
Organising a hiking trip in the Wadden or renting a canoe or bike, we are happy to arrange this for you.
From the harbour of Lauwersoog the ferry leaves for the island Schiermonnikoog; a daytrip to ‘Schier’ is a memorable event.
Pieterburen where you will find among other things the seals nursery and the botanical garden ‘Domies Toen’ (the pastors garden) is at the short distance of fifteen minutes by bike.
The National Park ‘Lauwersmeer’ is nearby and worthwhile to visit any time of the year.
Of course, you’ll have to see ‘De Theefabriek’ (the Tea Factory) museum in Houwerzijl and the ancient Verhildersum manor in Leens, but our detailed documentation will bring you to dozens of other places of interest in the surroundings.
From May to October a recital on the famous Hinsz organ of the Petrus church in Leens is held every Saturday night.
Also the city of Groningen (25 km) is worth while visiting.

There is a lot of choise within 5 km. There are French, Belgian, Italian, German and Chinese restaurants. There are simple (but good) restaurants, but you can also have dinner at restaurants listed in the "Guide Michelin".

About Fishing

Fishing is posible just next to the house. Sea fishing can de arranged.

About Sailing

In National Parc "Lauwersmeer" there are possibilities for sailing. Sailing boats can be rented. Als roundtrips by boat are possible.

About Beaches

The house is situated at 2 km from the sea dike. Beaches however are on the Wadden Islands only. The island of Schiermonnikoog is quiet (only cars of inhabitants are allowed) and beautiful. A day trip by ferry (at 20 km) is interesting and relaxing.
