Farmhouse in Dordogne, France

Property Details

Les Herissons is a converted barn, part of an old farm situated in a quiet little hamlet in the countryside not too far from the nearby town of Neuvic on the River Isle. A small private drive leads onto the property between the open aspect garden and the farm courtyard. The courtyard is almost fully enclosed with a good sized lawned area, outside seating and covered barbecue, plus the old well house.

Across the courtyard the buildings form an L shape with the owners accommodation on the right hand side and the gite tucked away to the other side with it’s own private covered terrace. Here you can dine out and relax in a welcome area of shade. Between the main gite and the owner’s house is the adjoining extra accommodation which links together the whole farmhouse ensemble.

Entering the main gite through the stable door off your private covered patio you come directly into the lounge /diner with fitted corner kitchen. Here there is an extendable dining table for six, all the usual kitchen equipment, with oven, microwave and hob, plus fridge. There is also a small television receiving UK freeview channels via satellite and a sofa and two armchairs.

Off the lounge / diner is a ground floor double (king size)bedroom with wc and bathroom. There is access from this bedroom directly to the courtyard outside and also through to the second lounge (if this is included in your accommodation choice). Stairs lead up from the lounge to the first floor open plan mezzanine which has a double bed and which leads through a low opening in the wall (reduced head height 1.40m) to the second twin bedroom and en suite bathroom with separate wc.

If you have the additional adjoining accommodation as part of your rental then you will also benefit from another double en suite bedroom and second lounge with it’s own dining facilities and separate entrance door from the courtyard. In fact what could be a self contained unit and which gives an enormous choice for families.

Outside is the private covered terrace with dining table and seating, further seating across the courtyard and a covered barbecue area. The owners rest discreet at all times and although the courtyard is shared they have their own private terrace tucked away around the side of the farm and they leave the courtyard for the use of the guests.

The other side of the property has the garden which is open and includes a small ‘splash pool’, an above ground circular pool about 1 m in depth, great for the kids and anyone else who just wants to cool down, but not a swimming pool!

There is also a laundry room with washing machine available for use by the guests.

The small hamlet is quiet and safe with no passing through traffic. The owners are pleased to welcome you after your journey to the gite with a Table d’hote (evening meal) on arrival, taken with them as their guests. You should find everything you need at the gite for an enjoyable holiday and you are well placed to set off and explore the Dordogne region and all that it has to offer.
