Local Area Details

The most important buildings (University, Prefecture, Law Court, City Hall, District House, etc. ) and the most interesting historical and touristic sites ( Cathedral, Sanna Museum, Brigata Sassari Museum, the newly refurbished Italy Place, etc.) are very close to the apartment. In Sardinia, from january to december there are more than 200 events, but only three of them offer the opportunity to bring together all the typical costumes of the island: Sant’Efisio at Cagliari, the Redentore at Nuoro and the Cavalcata Sarda at Sassari.
The Cavalcata, that take place on the last week of May, is different from the other two celebration because it’s not a religious celebration, it joins varoius aspects: the costumes, dances, songs and destrezze on horseback are the real protagonists, emblems of a tradition that exists in all its variety and richness. On 14 August each year in Sassari you can watch at the descent of Candlesticks, this is a votive feast since the plague of 1652 ceased, was officially recognized as the fulfilment of the vote by the guilds of Arts and Crafts called by the Spanish word "Gremi", which undertook to offer the Assumption of the Virgin candles to bring every year on August 14 to the Church of Santa Maria in solemn procession.
