Les Iris is a 17th century cottage on an idyllic chateau Domaine with a large heated pool and a fully equipped health spa. The Domaine de Peyloubere is a beautiful 17th century Gascony estate set in 35 acres of woodland, lakes, gardens and tall trees. Les Iris is one of 5 cottages on the estate and is converted from the old coach house, Les Iris is named not only for the ‘flags’, which flourish around the cottage, but also for the spectacular stained glass window specially created for the sitting room by the celebrated local artist, Michèle Darèes.

The cottage is suitable for up to five people. The living room has been created using the full height of the original building with exposed roof timbers and beams and has a comfortable seating area and large dining table and chairs. Light floods into the room, on one side dappled colours through the stained glass window, and on the other through broad french windows which lead out on to the terrace, garden and Wellington lawn beyond.

The modern kitchen occupies the space beneath a wooden mezzanine floor supported by robust timber pillars and providing a twin bedroom among the rafters. A second wooden staircase leads up from the living room to a single room with brass bedstead and the bathroom (with bath, WC and washbasin) is beneath this bedroom. There is a separate laundry room with sink and washing machine.

The master bedroom is a self contained suite with a double bed (150cm) and separate shower room with washbasin and WC.

Local Area Details

Peyloubere is situated in the Department of the Gers in South West France. The 35-acre estate lies just outside the village of Pavie which is 10 minutes south of Auch, the historic and vibrant capital of Gascony. The nearest airport of Toulouse Blagnac is 55 minutes from Auch; Carcassone, Pau and Bordeaux are about two hours away. Auch itself has around 70 restaurants and all of the other facilities that one would expect of a departmental capital. About History

Peyloubere is a listed ‘monument historique’ due to it having been the home (for most of his life) of Mario Cavaglieri – the renown Italian painter. The ceilings of the manoir were painted by him – and include French and Italian landscapes and copies of well-known Italian frescos.

About Transport

Although a car is not essential, most of our guests bring one. It is possible to walk to 2 or 3 restaurants and we have 3 bakers in our village. There is a train station in Auch with regular services to Toulouse and beyond. There are regular bus services - the nearest stop is about 500 metres.

About Golfing

There are a number of good courses within easy reach.

About Fishing

Guests may fish in our lakes or along the river bank. A licence is required to fish the river.

About Airport Information

The nearest Airport is Toulouse which is about an hour away. Bordeaux and Carcassone are about 2 hours and Pau a little less.

About Nightlife

There are a number of nightclubs in Auch and lots of taxis that can bring you home in the wee hours!
