Property Details

The cottage is well appointed, full of character and has many original features. Positioned on the edge of a small hamlet, it enjoys stunning views over rolling countryside. The accomodation is all ground floor; although there are two steps down to the bedrooms. All rooms are spacious. The romantic master has a king sized bed with ensuite bathroom. The twin with shower room and loo adjacent can easily accomodate a foldaway bed if required, we also have a cot. In the newly decorated sitting room many original features such as beams, wooden floor and a traditional (and working) Charentaise fireplace remain. The kitchen is a meeting place for all the family. Not only does it have the modern appliances expected today but it also has a comfortable seating area based around a log burning stove - my favourite room in the cottage.
To the rear is a secluded, sizeable garden, enclosed on three sides, with the fourth having a gap to allow car access for parking. There is a beautiful terrace where you can enjoy alfresco dining or simply relax with a glass of wine - or two. Beyond is a lawn and small orchard.

Local Area Details

The Charente is documented as the second sunniest region in France. The nearest village to the cottage is two minutes drive or a leisurely walk and has a welcoming shop/bar/restaurant. The pretty village of Blanzac (5 mins) has varied shops and restaurants.There are many other restaurants within easy reach to suit all pockets and tastes. Close by are a number of swimming lakes with clean beaches and places to eat. Activities such as tennis, canoeing, golf, horse riding, quad biking and fishing are easily arranged. The area is ideal for walking and cycling - we have adult bicycles at the cottage.
There are three large market towns each within 15 mins drive. Each has its own distinct character, including chateaux to visit, and enjoy facilities such as markets, supermarkets, swimming pools and sports centres. The nearest city is Angouleme (30 mins) with a walled old town steeped in history. Within easy reach by car are many other interesting towns such as Brantome, St Emilion and Cognac. The ancient village of Aubeterre sur Dronne (20 mins) is officially one of the prettiest in France. It has a fascinating monolith church where concerts are held during the summer months. The sea is about one hour and Paris is just over 2 hours by train from Angouleme.
