Local Area DetailsValley of Desolation - R160.00 p.p (including sundowner)
A famous landmark and definitely worth seeing. We offer you a trip to the Valley in a Mircobus with guide.
The sheer cliff face is a geological phenomenon that is situated in the Camdeboo National Park. This 15 000 ha reserve surrounds the more than 200 year-old town of Graaff-Reinet.
The Valley of Desolation is the product of volcanic and erosive forces of nature over 100 million years. The Valley was declared a Scenic National Monument in 1935.
The columns of Dolerite rise 120 meters from the valley floor and in the distance the Karoo landscape stretches to the horizon.
The endless space has rendered many tourists speechless. It is a mecca for hikers, photographers and students of flora and fauna.
Game Viewing - R160.00 p.p
Easy viewing of game by vehicle with your guide. There are 43 species of mammals, 336 varieties of plants and over 220 recorded species of bird life to be found in this region. Early explorers were amazed at the vast herds of game that roamed the area, especially the Springbok. People fondly recall these herds taking three days to pass. These animals are still prevalent in the district and many farms carry the white and black Springbok.
6 species are found in the Karoo that will not be seen in Kruger National Park.
Farm Visit - R300.00 p.p (including sundowner and venison meal)
Travel 19km out of town and see one of the most beautiful Karoo farms available in the region. Enjoy the splendour of a 18th century homestead, visit the studio where local women produce handwork of exceptional quality that is exported to various European countries. Followed by an introduction to merino sheep and Angora goats and a sheep counting competition. Enjoy a 4x4 trip up the mountain, sunset drinks and a venison meal back at the house. When possible star gazing is also offered.
Argave Factory Tour - R65.00 p.p (including tasting)
See the making of the first spirit, which we unfortunately can’t call Tequila, being made outside of Mexico. Have a taste and enjoy hearing about the process - A unique experience! Tastings are a must.
