The Watch House Gorran Haven Sleeps 2 to 4 United Kingdom
The Watch House
Cottage in England, United Kingdom
Property Details
The Watch House was built about 150 years ago by the Coastguards to prevent smuggling. Located at the centre of the beach, no boat could enter the bay or person move on the beach or harbour wall without being seen from the bay window. Now, YOU can enjoy these stunning beach, harbour and cliff views whilst relaxing in the modernised first floor apartment in comfort unimagined by the Victorian Coastguards.
The Watch House has been carefully converted in to a one-bedroom apartment that comfortably sleeps a family of four or two adults. The bedroom has twin three-foot beds and the lounge has a folding double wall bed with spring interior mattress. Many of our returning guests prefer to use the folding wall bed so they can wake up to the sound of the waves on the beach and enjoy the unique views.
The lounge has built-in seats in the bay window to enjoy the views, easy chairs, a dining area, TV with DVD player and VCR and an electric flame effect fire. By day, the double bed folds away fully made behind folding doors.
The galley kitchen is fully equipped for four including an electric cooker with four rings, fridge/freezer and microwave.
The shower room has an electric shower, WC, washbasin and shaver point.
The cost of electricity is included in the rental. Night storage heaters in lounge, bedroom and bathroom for early and late lets.
Bed linen and towels are not provided. Duvets and pillows provided but please bring your own covers.
No smoking in the apartment.
A small boat may be berthed on the private slip under the bay window.
Local Area DetailsGorran Haven's major attraction is its golden yellow sand and small harbour. Children enjoy the timeless delights of building sandcastles, damming the small stream and playing in the sea. A new sewage treatment works ensures the bathing waters meet European standards.
Fishermen can fish from the quay or cliffs and seasonal boat trips operate from the village or Mevagissey. Boat moorings can be rented from the local Fishermens' Society who own the harbour.
Gorran Haven has a convenience shop with Post Office, newsagent and bakery where fresh bread and pasties are still baked on the premises. The Llawnroc public house does real ales, bar food and has a family restaurant. The village also has a hairdressing salon. A mix of seasonal tearooms, cafes, gift shops and a fish and chip shop compete for patronage from the summer visitor.
The internationally famous Lost Gardens of Heligan are about 4 miles away and the Eden Project is about 15 miles away. Other notable Cornish Gardens including Caerhayes Castle, Trelissick, Trewithen, Pine Lodge and Lanhydrock with its National Trust house are in easy driving distance.
The South West Coastal Path passes through the village and the village is surrounded by some of the more spectacular cliffs on the Cornish South coast. The Coastal Path can be followed in one direction to Mevagissey and to the majestic National Trust owned Dodman head in the other direction. It is possible to walk to or from Mevagissey and use the bus in the other direction.
Mevagissey with its famous double harbour has many fish restaurants and gift shops in its narrow streets. A seasonal ferry service operates to Fowey.
