Faysselle is in the beautiful unspoiled region of Lot et Garonne in South West France, which has been largely undiscovered by many tourists. Gently rolling hills are covered in fruit blossom in springtime and turn to gold in summer with acres of sunflowers. The climate is delightful with early springs, long hot summers and short winters.

There are many pretty bastide villages steeped in the history of the Hundred Years War. Village squares, unchanged through the years, are an ideal spot for esting with a coffee or glass of wine before ambling through the markets with their tempting display of fruit, vegetables, cheese and local produce.

Levant is one of three gites at Faysselle, and sleeps 4 in spacious accommodation. It was converted from an 200 year old barn and has retained wonderful character with beams and exposed stonework.

Downstairs is a large living area with comfy seats and a wood-burning fire, dining area with large dining table and a well-equipped kitchen area with large fridge/freezer, washing machine, cooker and microwave. French doors lead onto a terrace, shaded by a vine-covered pergola with barbeque. The thick stone walls keep the living area delightfully cool in the hot summer and the wood-burning fire recirculates into the upstairs main bedroom, making this a cosy gite even during the winter.

A stone staircase from the lounge climbs to an attractive gallery landing leading to a double bedroom with views over the surrounding fields, and a twin bedroom which looks out over our gardens. Both bedrooms are equipped with fans for any warm and sultry nights. There is an attractive shower/wc looking out over the pergola with the heady perfume of roses and honeysuckle in early summer.

The gite has a good selection of family games for any inclement weather (well, just in case!) , along with satellite tv which includes all BBC tv and radio channels.

As well as each having their own private terrace, Levant and its neighbour Couchant (sleeps 6) can also share a further covered terrace. This is ideal for families who may wish to share a holiday and mealtimes, but who wish to retain their own living accommodation.

The main attraction of Faysselle is the pretty 10.5m x 5.5m pool with a mini pool (ideal for toddlers) with waterfall cascading into the main pool. There are plenty of sunloungers, umbrellas and space for sunbathing for all guests. Pool games, badminton, snooker and boules are all provided.

Local Area Details

The region is full of historical interest and was much fought over during the Hundred Years' War. there are numerous bastide villages to explore, along with colourful markets selling the wonderful local fruit and vegetables.

We are close the wine growing areas of Buzet, Duras and Cahors, and for food lovers this area is a must! Magret and confit of duck, foie gras, melons, plums and soft fruit are all produced locally. Agen is famous for its prunes and if your only memory of prunes is from school dinners, wait until you try prunes in Armagnac. You will never think of them in the same way again! Restaurants vary from basic regional cooking to haute cuisine, and prices from 10 euros for a three course lunch to the somewhat more expensive (!) Michelin 3 star restaurant in nearby Puymirol.

Golf and horse riding are close by and there are several leisure lakes with 'beaches'. There is Parc Walibi in Agen, a theme park which is enjoyed by all ages, and and an adventure park with aerial walkways, rope slides etc set in woodland close to Fumel. There is also a small water park near Valence d'Agen about 25 minutes away. There are numerous water sports on the Lot and Garonne rivers, or if you prefer to watch rather than participate then there are electric boats for hire in Villeneuve-sur-Lot or canal/river trips from Agen or Nerac. There is even a go-kart track near Agen!

Day trips out can include the scenery of the Lot and Dordogne valleys, Cahors and the spectacular St Cirq lapopie, and the larger cities of Toulouse and Bordeaux. The Airbus factory in Toulouse offers tours in English, and there is also an excellent space museum there.

We guarantee you will receive a warm welcome at Faysselle. Many of our guests return time and again and one couple loved it so much they asked if we could organise their wedding here! We have lived here for six years and like to feel that our visitors return not as 'guests' but as 'friends'
