Villa in Costa Blanca, Spain

Property Details

Nestled among orange and lemon groves, only 5 minutes from the typical Spanish village of Jesus Pobre lies ‘La Mariposa’.

A 200 year old finca with its own private pool, it is surrounded by mature gardens with pomegranate, olive and almond trees creating a very special and quiet retreat.

The villa has been lovingly restored with no expense spared and retains all the features of a traditional Spanish finca - hand made terracotta floor tiles, full-length wooden shutters, heavy beamed ceilings, large arches, thick stone walls, wrought iron balconies and a big stone fireplace.

Outside, the house is surrounded by land terraced in the traditional Spanish style, while fir trees provide welcome shade and unrivalled privacy.

The large pool (10 x 5 metres) has full width Roman steps and two fountains that create the sound of fresh bubbling water throughout the day. The pool is surrounded by terracotta tiles making it perfect for sunbathing in the day while for those evening swims there is underwater lighting.

A vine covered pergola gives shade throughout the day and with direct access to the kitchen it is perfect for outdoor dining.

Inside, the house is fully furnished with beautiful antique furniture which adds to the traditional feel but at the same time, every modern amenity is provided to ensure total comfort.

All three bedrooms have window balconies with wooden shutters and views onto the gardens and woodland. They also enable the breezes that blow up from the valley to keep the house cool throughout the summer.

For winter lets La Mariposa is a cosy, welcoming hideaway with its big stone fireplace and full central heating.

La Mariposa is just a few minutes from La Sella golf course. 10 km from the beaches of Javea and Denia. A short drive into the Xalon valley and hills inland.

It sleeps 6 comfortably. A large master bedroom with ensuite bathroom and large walk-in dressing room has windows looking onto the pool and hillside. The second and third bedrooms share a bathroom, with a large walk-in shower, wc and sink unit. The second bedroom has a double iron bed; the third bedroom has 2 single beds that can be pushed together if needs be. There is a fully fitted kitchen and separate laundry room, a large spacious sitting room with separate tv area.

Local Area Details

JESUS POBRE
Jesus Pobre is a typical Spanish village built around a central High street lined with bars and shops. There is a small square and a lovely old church. On the edges of the village are villas and fincas (many of which are owned by the people who live on the High Street to use as their Summer residences!)

There are a surprising amount of facilities including a bakery, a chemist, a bank, a general store plus several bars and restaurants.

The general store is small but it sells fresh meat, fruit and vegetables as well as dried and frozen goods. It is open from 9am-1pm and from 5pm –8pm.

The CAM bank is in the village square and they are very helpful. The manageress (Anna) speaks English. They will change currency and travelers cheques. However be aware that they are ONLY open in the mornings and not on Saturdays.

Near the bank you will find the post box and the telephone box.

There are many bars which all serve tapas and meals. Both Pedros and Rositas have large terrace restaurants at the back.



JAVEA
Javea is split into three quite different parts – the Old Town, the Port and the Arenal Beach.

- The Old Town is almost exclusively Spanish and offers some excellent tapas bars. It is worth exploring on foot as it is composed of a maze of narrow streets winding around the church, museum, covered market and cultural center, The weekly open market is held on a Thursday morning between approx 8.30 – 12.30 in the large parking area near the Post Office.

- The Port area is based around the fishing harbour and the sailing marina. It has an excellent choice of restaurants to suit all price ranges and tastes. You will find good fish restaurants here. The fisherman’s church with its unusual modern design is also worth seeing. There is a Tourist Information office here and several shops. The large pebble beach is popular with the Spanish.

- The Arenal Beach is a sandy bay with safe bathing and all the amenities you would expect by the seaside. It is ideal for children as it slopes very gently. The beach also has slides, climbing frames and volleyball nets. There is a large choice of restaurants and shops, most of which are open all day and most of the night.

Between the Arenal and the port there is a long stretch of rocky beach, which in the summer months has beach, bars and kiosks offering windsurfing and jet skis for hire.

Note that there are several one-way systems around Javea but they do seem to work!



DENIA
Denia is a large town, port and holiday resort situated at the foot of the Montgo mountain. The tree-lined main street (El Marques de Campo) is very attractive with bars, restaurants and a good choice of shops.
The castle, which dates back to the Moors occupation, is worth the uphill walk through the back streets, offering superb views over Denia.
From the busy port area (where the ferries leave for the Balearics) the sea front runs into Las Marinas, a long stretch of sandy beach with more bars and restaurants to choose from. It tends to be less crowded than the Javea Arenal. The coastal road between Javea and Denia is winding with spectacular views. You will find it starts at the bottom of the steep hill just behind the port in Javea
