Cottage down a single track road - Ideal for 2 - France
\"La Senardaie\"
Cottage in Pays de la Loire, France
Property Details
“La Senardaie is a quaint little cottage that is perfect for two, down a single track lane, 1km outside the small village of LA FERRIERE DE FLEE. If you want to be cut off for a week or two &/or want a tranquil base from which to explore the region or just sit in the completely enclosed garden and “chill out, this is the place you have been looking for.
The stable type front door opens directly into the large kitchen/breakfast room, which has the original low beamed ceiling, It is fully fitted giving plenty of storage space and worktop. There is a gas cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, double sink, kettle and of course, a teapot. In the cupboards you will find all that you may need for cooking whilst on holiday. Standing in the middle, a table and two chairs.
The lounge/dining room is another generous size room with a glass fronted fireplace for the use of those taking an out of season break. For your entertainment there is a TV/video player and a DVD player. There is a small collection of video cassettes but no DVD’s, if you wish to bring some cassettes/DVD’s, you will be able to play them. However, no television channels (either English or French) are available. In addition there is the facility for you to play your CD’s and tape cassettes on a radio. The lounge is furnished with a three-piece suite, coffee table and dining room table and chairs.
The bedroom is the one room that is carpeted and besides the double bed, has a wardrobe, small chest of drawers and bedside cabinets with lamps. The bed will be made up for your arrival.
Toilet facilities include a WC, washbasin, shower over a bath (sorry, bath not usable) and a razor point/light.
All the rooms overlook the garden (except the shower room) and besides the fireplace have electric convector fires in them, should heating be needed. The cost of the electric is included.
Change over day is normally a Friday on this property, but out of season it can be changed to suit you if required, please ask.
The garden is about 600 square metres and very secluded (you can get that all over tan if you wish) and faces South. It is mostly laid to lawn with mature trees and shrubs, giving welcome shade from the sun. There is a small patio, garden furniture, B.B.Q. and to complete things, sun loungers.
As you are thinking of taking your holiday in this area we assume that you are aware of some places to visit in this very historic region of ANJOU, however, there are many tourist leaflets in the cottage.
Because of the change in law, we appreciate that some people will wish to bring their pets with them, we are happy about this as long as it is strictly on the basis that under no circumstances are animals allowed in the bedroom. Another item we should mention, NO SMOKING IN THE COTTAGE- for the comfort of the next guests. We do ask that you honour these two “rules.
In our visitors book you will find the following from previous guests during 2002:-
“We came for a quite break and found this haven of a peace ….spacious for two
Drs. K.D. & G. Bardhan - Rotherham
“An ideal situation, cottage well provided…..music centre was particularly welcome
Keith & Tony – London
“Cottage perfect, so peaceful
Val & Dave – West Yorkshire
“A marvellous place to relax and sunbathe
Alan & Margaret – Hersham, Surrey.
“How peaceful and so quite, the very opposite to home
Camilla & Peter – Hornchurch, Essex
“A lovely holiday came our way when we arrived at La Senardaie.
The beautiful setting this cottage sits in, away from the fumes & all other din
Just the sound of the trees, the donkey & goat, a retreat near to towns but also remote
The rivers & flowers, so pretty to see!!
We loved it here & now we moan, it’s time to go home for Michael & Joan
Michael & Joan – Felixstowe, Suffolk.
Local Area DetailsThe next village of SEGRE is 7k away, where there is a heated indoor swimming pool, banks, chemists, shops, restaurants and bars. It has a weekly market (Wednesday) which is well supported with traders and shoppers alike. There are two large supermarkets with the nearest one “SUPER U having an in house bakers. Also you will find a DIY type shop – BRICOMARCHE – from which you can purchase logs should you wish to use the fire.
The Anjou region is renown for the Chateaux, waterways and of course, wine. Besides these there are plenty of other things to see and do nearby, including a fine selection of golf courses, of which full details are available. It is only 2 hours drive from the coast or in the opposite direction, Futuroscope. You will find various tourist leaflets in the house giving fuller details. However, you should not miss out on a visit to ANGERS, with the castle and Apocalypse tapestry (largest in the world). Also, this is the only place in the world where Cointreau is made. Visits to the distillery can be made, with tasting, of course.
The region is very famous for its waterways, there being the Rivers, Oudon, Mayenne, Maine, Loir and of course the mighty Loire. There are various activities available on the rivers including day cruises where you can see the many Chateaux from the comfort of a boat. Some have areas for swimming and other water activities.
Of course if Chateaux are your “thing then you could not be in a much better area, there are loads for you to visit within the area, too many for us to try to name.
Anjou’s history is closely tied with the history of England. It was in the early 11th century that the region really began to take shape. It was during that period that the count of Anjou, known as Geoffrey the Fair, founded the Plantagenet dynasty. He married Matilda, daughter of the King of England, and their grandson, Richard the Lionheart is buried in the Fontevraud Abbey alongside his parents, Henry 2nd and Eleanor of Aquitaine. In fact 15 princes and princesses of this family are buried here. This abbey is very impressive and well worth a visit.
Domaine de la Petite Couere is rather unique in France. A natural park of 80 hectares, in which over 300 animals are on view, most of which are free to roam as they want. Many of which are quite unusual, like their mascot a very large headed “donkey called Le baudet du Poitou, a rare survivor of an endangered species. In the grounds is also a reconstructed village of the early 19th century with a school, church, house and shops - a real step-back in time. In addition, there is on view means of transport and household machines through the ages, a vast collection of Dinky toys and much more. There are plenty of picnic areas available both in the open and under cover (get out of the sun) so take a picnic and enjoy a full day.
For a real taste of France “La Guinguette is a must. An open air restaurant between Feneu and Montreuil Juigne on the banks of the river Mayenne. Meals are served both at midday and the evening, often accompanied by music and singing.
Fancy a day out on the beach, but do not want to drive to the coast? Just go towards Angers and before you reach the town turn off to Lac de Maine where you will find a swimming area with a beach and pedalos. This also has picnic areas and even places for you to do a BBQ – take your own charcoal though.
Saumur has much to offer, besides its grand Chateau, troglodyte caves, the mushroom caves, the first underground miniature town in the world sculpted from limestone and of course the famous Cadre Noir horses. It is said that the stone for the construction of St. Paul’s Cathedral came from here.
The zoo of Doue La Fontaine is based around the underground caves typical of the area. A lush tropical environment with over 500 species living in partial captivity. The zoo also has a programme for the conservation of endangered species.
Close to this zoo is “the garden of roses, where there are innumerable different plants on view.
