House in Champagne Ardenne, France

Property Details

Maison Blanche, a country manor house, is situated on the outskirts of the historic and picturesque village of Cirey sur Blaise. The village, its chateau once home to Voltaire and pictured on the old 10-franc note, lies in the region of Haute Marne, which is in the province of Champagne Ardenne. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, and only ten minutes away from the champagne vineyards, the village, nestled in the valley of the Blaise, lies in a tranquil and little known area of France.

The house, which was until recently part of the chateau’s estate and used as a family holiday home, dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries. It has recently been sympathetically renovated whilst great care has been taken to retain many of the original features.

Maision Blanche is a large house making it ideal for large family groups or friends sharing. It has a large entrance hall, a drawing room, a library with a television and DVD player, a playroom with a table tennis table and a small pool table, a large dining room and a large country styled kitchen with a range cooker, dishwasher, a large fridge/freezer, microwave and all the other conveniences of home. The utility room has a washing machine and a drying cabinet. There is also a shower room and loo on the ground floor. Upstairs there is a mezzanine bathroom, seven bedrooms and three bathrooms. The bedrooms are as follows:

The Red room with a king size bed with an en-suite bathroom.

The Olivia Room with a king size bed

The Cupid Room with a king size bed with an en-suite shower room

The Yellow Room with a double bed and a single bed

The Blue Room with two single beds

The two Twin rooms with two single beds

There is also another single bed available which can be placed in one of the other rooms plus there is a child's cot. Please let us know in advance in which room you would like the spare bed and cot so that they can be moved and made up before your arrival.

All the bedding (duvets) and towels are provided

Maison Blanche sits in over an acre of garden. In the rear garden there is a 12m x 6 m heated swiming pool with a spa end. There is also a covered paddling pool for very young children, swings and plenty of loungers and chairs. There are tennis rackets, badminton rackets and football nets available. All we ask if that if you loose balls and shuttlecocks you replace them so that the next guests will also have the use of them.

The house has central heating and open fires making it an ideal place for winter breaks as well as summer.

Local Area Details

Maision Blanche is situated on the outskirts of Cirey sur Blaise. Although it is a small village it has one of the most famous chateaus in France where Voltaire lived for many years. The village has over the years attracted artists and artisans and in the centre of the village there is the art gallery of Aline Bienfait, a well known sculptress and artist. The gallery is open between 2 pm and 7 pm most day. Well worth a visit.

The village has no shops but there are plenty of travelling shops and the bakery van arrives in the village every day except Wednesday around mid-day.

The nearest shops to the house are in Doulevant le Chateau some 6 kilometres away. There is a bakery, a small supermarket, a newsagent, a restaurant/bar, a pharmacy, a post office and on two days a week a branch of Credit Agricole is open. On Monday morning there is a small market and on Wednesday from 6.30p.m. onwards a pizza van is in the village. There is a file in the house which gives the opening times of all the shops.

In the opposite direction is Columbey les Deux Eglises. Best known as the home and burial site of General de Gaulle you cannot miss the large Cross of St. Lorraine on the top of the hill which is the momument to him and well known as the symbol of the French Resistance during the Second World War. The village has a number of small restuarants and shops but is obviously very busy withy tourists during the summer season.

The nearest towns are Bar sur Aube and Joinville both of which have markets, plenty of shops and large supermarkets. The two large towns are Chaumont and Troyes. Chaumont is the capital of Haute Marne and is a charming city with a famous viaduct.

Troyes is a beautiful medieval city with many beautifuly restored timber framed buildings and a cathedral at its heart. During the summer months the small streets are crammed with tables and chairs as diners sit outside listening to the local musicians on the stage outside the town hall. The city is famous for its 'andouillettes' and the cheese of Chaource. Troyes is famous as the city in Europe which has the largest number of outlet shops so a shoppers paradise. There are many museums and other points of interest. It is well worth going to the information office which can be found at 16, boulevard Carnot as they have full details of all the attractions for the city and the region.
