Built in the late 1800s , this house is now our home and we invite you to make it yours during your stay in Historical Old Cabbagetown. Come visit one of the greatest cities in the world and enjoy some true Canadian hospitality, plus spectacular sights such as the CN Tower, the Eaton's Centre, SkyDome, the Ontario Science Centre, the Royal Ontario Musuem, Paramount Canada's Wonderland and many more attractions.
Centrally located, Cabbagetown Rooms is close to many of these destinations. For our guests using public transit, there is a streetcar stop right outside our door, and we are within walking distance of many wonderful annual events as well, including Gay Pride Week and Caribana. We are always happy to keep you up to date on attractions taking place while you stay with us.
Local Area DetailsCABBAGE TOWN is one of oldest neighbourhoods in Toronto. The district got its name from the original poor Irish immigrants who, in the 1840s, fled the potato famine. They grew cabbages on their front lawns for cheap and nutritious food.
Here, in 1830, cottages were built to accommodate the workers of Gooderham and Worts Distillery. Twenty years later, the area still consisted largely of cottages.
After 1860, larger houses were built, the styling being mostly Georgian and Victorian, and later still, Gothic revival and Second Empire housing.
With its central location and as more and more fashionable people began to purchase and renovate homes here, it slowly became a trendy district
