ESTABLISHMENT DESCTIPTION
At Keepers Cottage, visitors will find high quality holiday accommodation for four people in an unspoiled North York Moors National Park village.
Built in 1766, the property was part of the Duncombe Park Estate and was the home of Lord Feversham's Head Gamekeeper who is a direct ancestor of the owner. The present owner's family has lived here continuously since 1850.
Inspected annually by English Tourist Board. 2008 - 2009 season awarded **** (4star) rating.
The accommodation, with full, central heating comprises of :-
A large and comfortable sunny lounge/dining room, leading to the conservatory. Fully fitted carpeting, colour TV, Sony stereo music centre and open fire.
Two bedrooms – a south facing double bedroom and a twin bedroom. All rooms are on the ground floor. Towels and bed linen are included in rental - quality duvets and covers with two pillows for each visitor.
A large bathroom with suite consisting of bath (electric shower over), hand wash basin and WC. There is an electric shaver point and hair drier. The bath surround is fully tiled and the bathroom has a laminate floor.
The compact kitchen is south facing and sunny. It is well equipped with a four ring electric cooker which has a full size oven and grill. There is an automatic washing machine, an automatic electric kettle, a two slice toaster and microwave oven. The family size fridge with freezer compartment is in an adjacent pantry.
The spacious entrance hall is central to the cottage and leads to all the cottage rooms. Outside, it leads directly to the paved, off road parking area for 2 cars.
Keepers Cottage is attached to the owner's home and is set in large grounds, shared with the owner. The lounge overlooks a small paddock in which sheep are usually grazing, together with lambs in season. A second paddock behind the cottage provides the cottage with a quiet and peaceful location, although only a few yards from Gillamoor's central village green
Visitors are most welcome to sit in the orchard - a most relaxing occupation on warm summer evenings. The orchard has apple and plum trees together with bushes of gooseberries, and red and black currants. There is a paved area for a portable barbecue which may be borrowed on request.
Gillamoor remains an unspoiled working village, through which sheep are regularly herded and farmers seen going about their daily tasks. There are three farms within the village boundary. At one end of the village, the picturesque church of St Aidan sits on 'Surprise View', which is a dramatic and panoramic view of the moors, while in the Main Street is the Wesleyan chapel. Both have interesting histories.
Our local inn is 50 yards away from the cottage door. The 'Royal Oak' is renowned in the area for its good food and beers.
Although perched on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors, Gillamoor has easy access to Kirkbymoorside (2 miles) and Pickering (10 Miles) where there are a variety of food shops and supermarkets for general provisions.
