Riverview is a pretty and peaceful complex situated in historical Hout Bay Manor and just a few minutes walk from the beach, local shops and restaurants. Security is excellent with access to the complex restricted via electrically controlled gates operated only by residents and manned by a security guard. A secure, covered parking bay reserved for No. 17 is located opposite the apartment. A pool in the complex is available for the use of guests.

17 Riverview is a spacious and well appointed, 3rd floor loft apartment, with two double bedrooms and one twin. The master bedroom has a bathroom en-suite, and the second double (on a mezzanine floor) and the twin bedroom share a shower room/WC.

The Kitchen, dining and lounge area is open plan and spacious. The lounge leads onto a private balcony overlooking the Baviaans river and offering a wonderful view of the mountains surrounding Hout Bay.

The apartment is comprehensively equipped with washing machine, fridge/freezer, oven/hob, microwave oven, cooking utensils and all other essential facilities.

For your entertainment, a TV, VCR, DVD and Hi-fi are provided in the lounge, with a small selection of movies on Video and DVD, and some music CDs . There is also a Video rental shop a few minutes walk from the apartment.

To give you a good start to your holiday, tea, coffee, sugar and milk are provided for your arrival, as well as a bottle of wine and fruit.

Local Area Details

Steeped in history and natural beauty, Hout Bay has many attractions from its quaint, traditional fishing harbour and white sandy beach, to a variety of excellent shops and restaurants. The picturesque village has the air of an unhurried, natural paradise - despite being just 30 minutes from the Cape Town city centre, and is ideally located for access to the rest of the Cape Peninsula and the world-renowned Cape Winelands.

The curving, sheltered, kilometre of white sand beach is just a five-minute walk from Riverview, and is ideal for swimming, surfing, paddle skiing, kayaking, wind surfing and scuba diving. At one end of the beach is the harbour that gives Hout Bay its very distinctive ambience, with rustic fishing boats and the eternal bustle of fishermen. From here, boats take you on chartered tours; including deep sea fishing charters, diving expeditions, sunset cruises and trips to Duiker island to view seals and seabirds. There is also a fish market - a seafood lover's paradise - and wonderful bistros, restaurants and gift shops. The Mariner's Wharf complex, situated adjacent to the harbour, is built around the hull of a 1940s wooden trawler from the Hout Bay fleet, and houses an array of attractions including a sea food restaurant and nautical antiques shop.

Guarded by the 330 metre Sentinel on the right (see picture) and the impressive Chapman's Point on the left, the beach is ideal for sunset picnics (see picture). Or enjoy supper on the balcony of the Dunes restaurant and take in the stunning views of Kommetjie and Chapman's Peak. Chapman's Peak Drive, blasted into the rock of the Peak, is one of the most spectacular coastal roads in South Africa. Winding up steeply from Hout Bay to Chapman's Point it provides breathtaking views of the blue waters below the majestic rock cliffs (see picture). This drive is also the most attractive route to Cape Point, Stellenbosch and the Cape winelands.

There are twelve recognised hikes and walks in the natural areas surrounding Hout Bay, ranging from leisurely to strenuous. These can take you along white beaches, over sand dunes, through milkwood forests, past waterfalls and up mountainsides.

For the less energetic there is the World of Birds, the largest bird park in Africa, hosting nearly 4000 birds of over 350 different species in large, landscaped aviaries mimicking the natural habitat. This beautiful park is also home to small animals such as meerkat and squirrel monkeys, making it a magic experience for photographers and nature lovers alike. There are also several art galleries featuring the works of artists, sculptors and crafters - many of whom live in Hout Bay. The Sunday craft market opposite Riverview is well worth a visit to see a broad selection of hand made items ranging from beautiful oil paintings to primitive African art.

And the cherry on the cake? Hout Bay experiences a near perfect seasonal mix. Summer is warm and dry with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C, while winters are mild with occasional rain, and temperatures fluctuating between 8°C and 20°C.
