The Location
The old granite cottage is situated on a hill at the side of a quiet country lane overlooking the historic town of Villedieu Les Poeles. It is about 90 minutes from Cherbourg and Caen. The nearest beach is at Granville which is 25 minutes to the west and Mt St. Michelle, Bayer and Avranches are all within an hour’s drive. The Normandy Beaches, Dinan and Rennes take a little longer and Monet’s Garden at Giverney is a comfortable day trip.
The Facilities
On entering the cottage you are in the kitchen dining room, with modern units, gas cooker, fridge and microwave. Go through the double doors to what was originally the barn to find the lounge with exposed stone walls and windows to the north and south. There are always plenty of logs for the open fire. (Child safety guard available) There are lots of books and a Video playback machine. Look up to see the Gallery with its west facing window and a basket of games. Also on the ground floor is a shower and toilet and a double bedroom.this makes it ideal for those who do not like climbing stairs.
On the first floor is another double room and a twin room. Go through the original loft door to the gallery, with its space to relax with the basket of games, to the bathroom and toilet.
There is also a fouton in the lounge and two single chairbeds to give you flexibility with your sleeping arrangements. Douvets, pillows and blankets are supplied.
There is an electric water heater and heaters in every room.
Please bring your own bed linen and towels.
Children at the cottage should be careful on the open tread steps and not climb on the balcony rails, however there are doors that should prevent little children from going there inadvertantly.
Access The ground floor is flat and accessible to wheelchairs once one step at the entrance is cleared.

Local Area Details

The Locality
Villedieu les Poeles is a pretty town with many places to visit, including a bell foundry , a lace and copper museum and copper workshops. The market on Tuesday mornings is excellent. There are plenty of places to walk in the area and ideas are in the book in the cottage. Bird watchers listed 100 species seen on a recent visit.
