Built c. 1820 in the Georgian style, Gowrie House has been redecorated and elegantly furnished with fine antiques and works of art. Ten rooms with private ensuite baths, A/C, fireplaces and a caretaker's cottage for deluxe accommodation ~ particularily lovely for those special occassions, such as anniversarys, weddings and weekend getaways. Several of our suites are popular for honeymoons.

Convenient to the North Sydney Ferry Terminal for the Marine Atlantic/Atlantique Ferry to Port aux Basques and St. John's, Newfoundland.

Dinner is served daily at 7:30 p.m. with advance reservations required in our two star rated dining room (of a possible three starts). You will not want to miss dinner at Gowrie House. Each evening at 7:30 p.m. (8:15 later in the year) a four course dinner is served featuring the finest local ingredients available. These ingredients include but are not limited to fresh Atlantic salmon, Cape Breton lamb and seasonal fresh produce. The menu changes daily and may offer fruit soups, salads, a choice of meat or fish entree, and a choice of desserts such as our signature dessert - Hazelnut Meringue Torte.

All rooms have air conditioning, private baths and cable television.
All rooms are individually decorated with fine antiques.
Complimentary Breakfast is served 7:30AM – 9:30AM
Check in time is 1:00 P.M. and Check Out time is 11:00 A.M.

Glace Bay
Glace Bay was a community built on coal. Be sure to visit the Miners' Museum and the Marconi National Historic Site. The miners' museum focuses on the contribution of the coal miner and coal. Experience life in a coal mine first hand. The Miners' Village features a company store and a home from the late 19th century. Sydney
Sydney was booming city at the turn of the century with the construction of the largest self-contained steel plant in North America. Today visitors can enjoy shopping, movies, a casino and a lively waterfront. Sydney is also home to Cossitt House and Jost House, two of the city's oldest historic houses that have been turned into museums. The downtown is also home to St. Patrick's Church, a tiny stone structure which is the oldest Catholic church in Cape Breton.


North Sydney
North Sydney is an historic seaport community on Sydney Harbour. It is home to the Marine Atlantic Terminals which offer ferry service to Newfoundland. Dockside ceilidhs take place on the community's waterfront during the summer. Archibald's Wharf offers shops, a bandshell, a playground and boardwalks with views of Sydney Harbour.

Cabot Trail
This world famous scenic drive is your to discover! Named for famous explorer, John Cabot, the Cabot Trail caresses the rocky shores of the Island's northern shore. Two Rivers Wildlife Park
This 500-acre park is home to many native animals including black bears, moose, deer and cougars. The park overlooks the beautiful Mira River.

Sydney Mines Heritage Museum & Fossil Centre
Housed in the former railway station, the Sydney Mines Heritage Museum works to preserve the area's heritage and history. Some of that heritage includes steel making and coal mining.
