The Herault offers a diverse landscape and a wide range of activities. There is never a shortage anything to do here! Whether it is a day lazing on white sandy beaches enjoying a whole host of available water sports, or a days walking or mountain biking though garrigue and mountain trails, kayaking and white water rafting through river gorges, leisure time is yours for the taking. If you are looking for something a little more sedate how about a round of golf on one of the regions many superb courses? In winter you can be on one of many ski slopes of the Pyrenees within two hours.Should you venture down in the summer months there is a never ending program of fetes and festivals throughout the villages and towns of the region. The majority of these date back to Medieval times, like the famous water jousts at Sete, Meze, Marseillan and Agde. Step back in time down the cobbled streets in the old quarter of the historic town of Pezenas and enjoy live music and street theatre. In August, you can head for the famous Feria of Beziers where the Spanish influence within the region comes alive in this four day festival of music, dance and partying.
August also sees the Oyster festival at the delightful little port of Bouzigues where it appears you just spend the day eating oysters and drinking the local Picpoul wine!
As one might expect seafood is plentiful in the Languedoc with a whole array of shellfish and fresh fish adorning the local markets. In addition to which, you will find almost every vegetable and fruit imaginable grown here, not forgetting the numerous varieties of olives from the local olive groves! To accompany all this delicious fresh produce you will never be stuck for a choice of local wine, many of which rank against some of the finest in the world, after all, this is the largest single wine producing region in the world!
One of the greatest benefits of living down here is rolling back the shutters in the morning to clear blue skies (well most mornings anyway!). After all the region does boast over 300 days of sunshine each year.
