La Casa Piedra is a newly restored village house high up in the village of Berchules in the central Alpujarras. La casa is a unique and special house in a quiet and unspoilt Spanish mountain village. The house provides superlative, refined and comfortable accommodation for two couples. The house has been restored in traditional Alpujarran style - chestnut beams, shuttered windows, flat roof. The house meets all holiday makers' requirements for modern and convenient facilities.

The house is built on three floors. The main living accommodation is on the first floor where there is a comfortable lounge with a wood-burning stove (ideal for cooler Spring and Autumn evenings) a spacious dining area and fully equipped kitchen. Upstairs on the third floor are the two bedrooms and bathroom. The main bedroom has a beautiful private balcony which looks out over the village to the mountains on the other side of the valley. On the ground floor is a second bathroom and store-room.
At the back of the house are two private but open and sunny terraces with barbecue and outdoor furniture. The views from the terraces are superb and uninterrupted to the high Sierras. The terraces are planted with a pear tree and grape vines, over the wall in the garden are more grape vines, cherry, apple and fig trees.
Staying at La Casa gives you an opportunity to get away from it all in a little known part of Spain. You will be ideally situated for walking of all levels. From simple picnic strolls or walks between the mountain villages to more challenging expeditions into the Sierra Nevada.

Local Area Details

Berchules is a small village just off the mountain road that links the high villages of the eastern Alpujarras – Trevelez, Juviles, Mecina Bombaron, Yegen and Valor. It is a sleepy village with about 800 inhabitants. It is a typical Alpujarran village built on the hillside with narrow streets, fountains of fresh mountain spring water, small squares and whitewashed houses.
It is about 1400 m above sea level so the air is fresh and cool in the evenings. It has a small selection of shops, a few bars, a handful of restaurants, a couple of banks that open part-time through the week and a hotel.
Berchules is a good base for touring the eastern Alpujarras and there are miles of walking straight from the village. Las Alpujarras are in the top twenty world walking destinations and you can walk out into the mountains straight from the door of La Casa
The Alpujarras are a curious and little known part of Spain. Set below the snow topped Sierra Nevada, the hills run east to west with a series of whitewashed villages clinging to the hillside. You can spend your holiday exploring these villages and enjoying the tapas, local wine and many festas.
Granada is about 90 minutes away so a visit to the Alhambra is a must.
The Mediterranean can be seen from the house on clear days and there are a number of resorts for days out.
