Local Area DetailsJAVEA (XABIA)
This ancient fishing port covers an area of coastline to the north of the Costa Blanca where olive, almond, orange and lemon trees cover the hillsides and the elephant shaped 'Montgo' mountain dominates the skyline.
Javea was deemed by the World Health Organisation to be 'environmentally near perfect' and it enjoys a year round mild climate making it a popular destination in the winter as well as the summer. It has also been designated a conservation area which means that no high rise developments are allowed there are now tough restrictions on the development of large areas of land.
The old town nestles at the foot of the Montgo and is made up of narrow, winding streets and ancient building made of the famous Tosca stone. In the centre of the town, standing 16 metres tall is the fortified Gothic church of San Bartolome and opposite the church a daily indoor market offers fresh fish, meat, fruit and vegetables.
The Arenal is the large crescent shaped 'blue flag' beach where families can play and swim safely. A pleasant promenade overlooks the beach where you will find a fine choice of bars and restaurants. A web cam at the end of the beach provides daily coverage to the rest of the world.
The Aduanas de Mar or Port area is one of the most active on the Costa Blanca with fishermen leaving every night and returning early each morning to auction their catch in the huge fish market. It is worth sacrificing a lie in to experience this first hand and bid for your dinner at the same time!
There are a number of quality shops in this area as well as an excellent choice of tapas bars and restaurants.
Javea has risen in popularity in recent years with both English people and Europeans alike but it also remains a firm favourite of the Spanish themselves. There are no package holidays available to Javea and people tend to stay in one of the small, personal hotels or in one of the many rented villas. Nightlife in Javea tends to be low key unless it's fiesta time when everybody parties!
For those with a sporty disposition there are many activities available including sailing, wind surfing, tennis, horse riding and with two courses to choose from, golfers are well catered for.
THE JALON VALLEY
The Jalon Valley is a beautiful, fertile area of land where olives, almonds, oranges and lemons grow in abundance. It is a famous wine making area specialising in the production of the sweet Moscatel. For those preferring a quiet country environment the town of Jalon which stands 180 metres above sea level and the smaller villages such as Lliber must be viewed. Pedreguer is one of two ‘gateway towns’ into the Jalon Valley and you can be deep into this beautiful scenery within five minutes drive from the villa.
DENIA
Denia is a fishing port with the cosmopolitan town standing proudly beside it. In the day, Denia has a variety of shops ranging from clothes, perfume, wooden carvings, tobacco and nick nacks to the stalls that sit along side the sandy beach. Denia has its own Market and this is on Mondays and Fridays where souvenirs can be found. In the evenings, Denia comes alive where nationalities from around the world mingle into one as distant laughter is heard and children can play safely until the early hours. If you still have the energy, the nightlife starts around 1am to 2am and goes on till way past dawn!
PEDREGUER
Pedreguer is the nearest town to the villa. It is a very pretty ‘Spanish’ town, two minutes drive away, where you will find all the shops that you need supermarkets, butchers, bakers, banks, a pharmacy and a number of small bars. Market day is Saturday. Experience a real Spanish town, not relying on tourism, and take some time to visit the church in the centre.
