Our cosy 2 bedroomed village house is situated in Competa, a traditional Andalucian village nestled in the Sierra de Almijara mountains, about one an a half hours from Malaga airport. Find traditional Spanish bars, where you can hear flamenco late in the evenings. Superbly situated close to the main square, but down a pedestrian side street in a litte plazoleta, where no cars go down.

The front door enters straight into the lounge (TV, video, CD/ tape) . There is a sofa bed in the upper level, and this area can be screened off. A few steps lead up to the kitchen completely renewed a couple of years ago with authentic granite stone worktops and solid wood kitchen cupboards. (All mod cons). The dining room seating 8 is accessed via an arch. Both lounge and here have ceiling fans.

The twin and double bedrooms (Mothercare travel cot available) are on the next floor. On the third floor is the bathroom and roof terrace, as well as utility room with washing machine.

The small roof terrace though quite small, has superb views over the mountains and rooftops of the village. Patio table and chairs are here for eating out. In the summer, part of the terrace roof is covered with bamboo to provide protection from the hot sun. The table can be folded completely flat if you want to put down the sun beds for relaxing during the day.

Bathroom and all windows were renewed last year. Tiled through out.

Local Area Details

Competa, a traditional Andalucian village, is nestled in the Sierra de Almijara mountains, about one an a half hours from Malaga airport. The village itself is growing with plenty of welcoming bars and restaurants throughout Competa so as not to get bored. Mind you, this is not the type of place where you will find English “pubs� and “Fish and Chips� shops but more the traditional Spanish bars, where you can hear flamenco late in the evenings.

The history of this area goes back to the period of the Moors coming over from Africa. The warmth and friendliness of the local people is always noted and there is a special atmosphere in the village which makes you want to come back.

The main Village Square is less than five minutes from the house. The old church is to the immediate left. There is a village market every Saturday in the main car park, where there are many more stalls and varieties of objects to look at and buy. There are fresh baker shops, with one only 5 minutes from the house where you can pick up hot bread, croissants every morning, even Sunday..

The heart of the village has remained unchanged for centuries and in the centre where the streets are too narrow and steep, there are no cars. This is because for years, the main mode of transport was the mule, and you will still see some stables under the houses. Although the centre of the village is inaccessible by car, the periphery roads are good and there is no problem in getting where you want to go. There is a multitude of sports and activities to participate in should you wish to. On the other hand, there are peaceful sleepy, villages to find, where you can sit in the main square under a tree, drink in one hand, and watch the world go by.
