A delightful detached stone cottage (ETC 5*) in peaceful, picturesque countryside, ½ mile from the thriving village of Longframlington, Picklewood Cottage is ideally situated for exploring all corners of Northumberland. The world-famous Alnwick Garden & Castle are only a 15 minute drive away!

This lovingly restored, former gamekeeper’s cottage is all on one level, is superbly equipped & double-glazed, with central heating, and log-burning stove. The lounge/dining room has a stripped oak floor, attractive exposed beams, comfortable seating and CD/Hi-Fi, colour TV, ‘digi-box’ and both a DVD & video player are also provided. Lots of walking information is available and there are maps for guest use in the cottage.

The cottage has two bedrooms, a superb king-sized and the other a very comfortable twin. The bathroom comes with luxurious under-floor tile heating and power shower over bath, and the superbly equipped kitchen has the benefit of washer/dryer, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, electric oven & hob, and microwave.

The enclosed garden has lovely open views towards nearby hills and is equipped with a stone-built barbecue. There are parking spaces for 2 cars adjacent to the cottage.

All bed linen and towels are included in the tariff, as is all heating and logs for the log-burning stove.

Local Area Details

The cottage is ideally situated to explore all the many delights of Northumberland, one of, we think, Britain's best kept secrets. There is beautiful coastline with silver sand and dramatic castles to explore, impressive country houses such as Cragside & Wallington Hall, beautiful gardens at Howick Hall and Alnwick Castle. Hadrians Wall, England's largest World Heritage site, is easily accessible, as is Kielder Water, Western Europe's largest man-made lake with a 27-mile shoreline. The Northumberland National Park and Cheviot Hills provide numerous opportunities for walkers with stunning scenery on offer, and you may very well not see another soul all day!
Longframlington village itself (half a mile from Picklewood Cottage) has a number of eating places and has an excellent local food shop, butchers and Post Office. If you are interested in traditional music, it is also home to a well-known maker of Northumbrian small pipes, whose workshop is open to the public.
The now world-famous Newcastle and Gateshead are not much more than 30 minutes drive away and open up endless opportunities for sightseeing, cultural activities, entertainment and retail therapy!
