Toad Hall, Suffolk (sleeps 10) United Kingdom
Toad Hall -Front from Summer House
Farmhouse in England, United Kingdom
Property Details
Atmospheric and beautiful:
In 2 acres of gardens and grounds, this spacious grade II listed, C16, timber framed house, complete with inglenook fireplace, accommodates 10 comfortably for weeks or short breaks. The house is well equipped with all modern conveniences among the wealth of exposed timbers in its interior. Children and dog welcome!
Toad Hall comprises two double bedrooms, two twin bedrooms and two single bedrooms (sleeping ten comfortably), two bathrooms (one en-suite), two sitting rooms and a games room (currently with an elderly table tennis table in it), a TV and a sound system, a large well-equipped farmhouse style kitchen with double oven, microwave and dishwasher and walk in larder with freezer, large hallway, utility room with washing machine and dryer and large overflow fridge, downstairs WC and entrance boot room.
The house is centrally heated and also has a log burning stove in one of the sitting rooms. There are two staircases. You should be warned that it is an old house and the staircases, whilst delightful for most, are possibly steeper than you may be used to and may not be suitable for someone with a disability (one of the single bedrooms is however on the ground floor).
The house is set in just under two acres of its own land and garden with lots of trees, a summer house and a farm pond. It is surrounded by farmland and the riding stable grounds and there is usually plenty of wildlife e.g. pheasants, ducks and rabbits in the garden and of course fish etc for pond dipping in the pond.
All children are welcome (cot and high chair provided). One well-behaved pet dog (fully house-trained, does not chew and stops to have its feet wiped) is welcome, provided we are informed and it is kept downstairs.
I hope the above conveys how lovely the place is.
Local Area DetailsToad Hall lies in the countryside near to the coast and the ancient town of Woodbridge on the River Deben with its fine restaurants and antique and book shops. The area is full of villages, pubs and sites of interest and activities (walking, riding, golf, fishing, etc) for adults and children. Among places of interest, that we have particularly enjoyed, are the mechanical music museum and the Sutton Hoo ship burial. The Moon and Mushroom in the nearby village (about a 15 minute walk) is a delightful independent pub which serves an excellent genuinely home cooked lunch or supper most days.
There is sailing at Orford and Aldeburgh and on the Deben at Woodbridge, plus golf courses and various course, game and sea fishing locations nearby. The neighbouring riding stable is an exam centre as well as providing fun for absolute beginners. There are beautiful beaches at Walberswick and Southwold to the north and Felixstow and Frinton to the south and at Aldeburgh and other places in between. In the summer there is the music festival at Aldeburgh and Snape. There are also fine Suffolk houses and gardens open to the public, like Ickworth and Helmingham Hall Gardens. The area is criss-crossed by a network of rural footpaths, which provide interesting walks and the lanes provide gentle cycle rides. There are of course swimming pools, ten-pin bowling and cinemas within 5 or 6 miles.
