Lakes Entrance is situated at the entrance to the Gippsland Lakes, which is east of Bairnsdale – Lakes Entrance, is renowned for its temperate weather, being warmer in winter than equivalent latitudes, making it a great escape from Melbourne in winter - or any time. Lakes Entrance is only 3-4 hours drive from Melbourne, heading towards the warmer climate of NSW. Lakes Entrance is situated at the man made entrance to the most extensive lake systems in Australia, known as Gippsland Lakes. A short stroll across the footbridge takes you to the 90-mile beach. Lakes Entrance is surrounded by National and Coastal Parkland. The lake provides a perfect venue for water based holiday activities - from toddlers splashing in the shallows of the lake, to surf fishing in the ocean, ideal for wind surfing, dingy and trailer sailing, cruising, skiing, lake and ocean fishing, ideal for boating, fishing and water sports, including among the very best sunset views anywhere. Lakes Entrance is known as Australia’s Seafood Capitol and boasts a large fishing port with an abundance of seafood available from the Fisherman’s Co-op or directly from the many trawlers. Short distance to Sporting Clubs, and to general stores/bakery/take away food shops etc. As well as golf, there is mini golf, tennis, bowls and RSL. Its gentle undulating land and quiet holiday village atmosphere (almost like a time warp back to 20 years ago), surrounded by native parks, makes it ideal for cycling, walking and nature watching, relaxing and enjoying yourself.
THE RIGHT CLIMATE !Victoria's Riviera has climatic conditions unique in Victoria. A true Mediterranean climate ensures summer temperatures tempered by sea breezes and mild winter temperatures in excess of 20 degrees C. are not uncommon.
"Daytime temperatures in winter are fairly uniform over the state, averaging 13 C..... except in East Gippsland, where the Föhn effect is experienced. This occurs when north westerly winds are blowing over eastern Victoria, particularly when they are bringing rain to the north-east ranges. The air loses most of it's moisture on the windward side of the ranges, and on descending from the mountains becomes quite warm... the Föhn effect causes the temperature to rise to over 20 degrees C. On these occasions, this area has the highest temperature in the State." Sure you might have to slip on a pullover, but you can get outdoors to enjoy the natural wonders of the area.
