Apartment in Languedoc, France

Property Details

The apartment is on the 4th floor of a modern block of flats. It has a high barrel vaulted roof that houses the gallery bedroom.
The views are exceptional, with the main Port of Gruissan in the foreground and the rugged hills of the Massif de la Clape as a backdrop.
The terrace enjoys the sun in the late afternoon and evening, and is cool in the mornings for breakfast. It is equipped with table and chairs
The apartment was completely renovated in 2003 and is beautifully decorated and well furnished.
Although small, its open plan design has a separate sitting area and a dining area that incorporates a new Ikea kitchen.
The fully equipped kitchen has a standard size electric cooker with four ring ceramic hob and a large fridge freezer. The bathroom has a new shower cabinet and also a washing machine. The wc is separate.
Steep stairs give access to the L shaped gallery bedroom with two separate sleeping areas screened from each other.
There is also a small office area on the gallery and ample wardrobe and drawer storage.
There are two shared private swimming pools and a small children’s pool. These are well maintained and only accessed by residents of the Mediterranee Port Soleil apartment block. Free parking is in adjacent public car parks and in low season it is possible to park directly outside the apartment.

Local Area Details

The old village of Gruissan is a 5 minute walk around the beautiful etang or salt lake which is a popular stop for flamingos much of the year. The village, once the home of fishermen and salt-pan workers has houses set in concentric circles around the ruin of the Barbarossa tower. There is a busy market on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday mornings where every type of produce is available. The local caves produce award winning Corbieres wines. The port has small supermarkets and gift shops as well as many good restaurants.
The new resort of Gruissan is built on the shores of the Grazel Etang, which protects it from the wide-open sea. Within walking or cycling distance are the beautiful beaches of Gruissan Plage with its unusual chalets built on stilts to protect them from the sea, and the salt works at I’lle Saint Martin. All water sports are catered for, there are hiking trails and bikes are easy to hire.
The popularity of Gruissan lies not only in its unique position but also its geographical location as an ideal centre from which to explore the Massif de la Clape, Carcassonne with its magical fortress Cite, the unique towns of Montpellier, Beziers and Perpignan, the Corbieres Mountains with the stunning Cathar castles, and the World Heritage site of the Canal du Midi.

There is a regular bus service into Narbonne which is 12 kilometres inland. The town, once an ancient maritime centre and the Roman capital of the province, has a magnificent cathedral and archaeological museum. Les Halles opens every morning and the colourful market takes over the plane tree shaded boulevards on Thursdays and Sundays. The timeless Canal de la Robine runs through the town centre linking the Canal du Midi to the sea at Port la Nouvelle.
The climate in the Languedoc is Mediterranean with summer temperatures reaching 30deg+ (80f). The region has its own version of the mistral known as the tramontane, which blows periodically from the northwest.
