The cottage is stone-built with oak beams throughout and dates from the 1750s. It lies in the hamlet of La Serrière, which has only 16 houses and is in a cul de sac - no through traffic! La Serrière is about a mile from the village of La Sauvagère, which is 5 miles from the spa town of Bagnoles de l'Orne, 50 miles from Caen. The area can be reached within one and a half-hours from the ferry port of Ouistreham.

The cottage is attractively furnished with antique furniture. It has a large lounge with a granite fireplace and wood burning stove, TV/video, DVD and CD players. The lounge leads to the dining room, which has a large dining table and dresser. The kitchen is equipped with gas hob, double sink, combination microwave/grill/oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. The bathroom is downstairs and has a bath with shower attachment. The ground floor has terracotta tiles throughout.
Wooden stairs lead from the lounge to the mezzanine, giving access to a double and a triple bedroom - duvets and pillows are provided.
Two adult mountain bikes and a child’s bike are available, as well as various outdoor games and golf clubs. The enclosed garden gets the sun all day long and has outdoor furniture and a barbecue. A selection of games, puzzles, books and maps are available
Local Area DetailsThe gite lies in the Normandy Maine Regional Park, which is notable for its forests and bocage countryside - small fields, woods, hedgerows and orchards. Less than three miles from the house is the enormous Forest d'Andaines, which stretches for over ten miles and is full of wildlife including red squirrels, wild boar and red deer. There are miles of walks and forest tracks, ideal for cycling. La Serrière has a small dairy farm, about 80 yards from the house, and is surrounded by fields and woods - 'bocage' country.
The local village of La Sauvagère is a mile away and has a boulangerie, bar/tabac/general store, café/restaurant, post office and butcher. There is a hypermarket in La Ferté Macé, five miles away. Bagnoles, also five miles away, has a cafes, restaurants, shops, swimming pool, tennis courts and golf course. Every local town has a weekly market. There is an indoor swimming pool at Flers, 20 minutes' drive.
There are many attractions with easy travelling distance including:

· D Day beaches
· Mont St.Michel
· Le Mans
· Deauville and Trouville
Paris is only a two-hour rail journey away. Some guests have managed a day trip to Disneyland Paris – there is a direct TGV link from Le Mans, which takes less than an hour and a half.
Additional InformationAbout BeachesBeautiful blue flag beach at La Cala is ideal for children. Cleaned every day, plenty of beach bars, easily accessible.
