Stable cottage is one of three adjoining self catering cottages in a 15th/16th century barn conversion on a working farm with wonderful views and almost tangible tranquillity. The cottages are interlinked and can accommodate up to 18 (including three sofa beds) as a whole or with one, two and three double/twin bedrooms if used separately. Each cottage has a sofa bed in its sitting room. All cottages are fully equipped (including a garlic press!) and are finished to a high standard. All are ETC**** acredited. the cottages share a private courtyard which is provided with outdoor tables, chairs and BBQs etc. The surrounding countryside is lovely with lots of walks. Exmoor is about 20 minutes away and the M5 is a similar distance.

Local Area Details

Walking,riding, fishing, golf,national trust houses and gardens etc are all within easy distance while the coasts, north and south, are about 40 minutes drive. Activity abounds on the working farm with sheep, pigs, horses and various fowl but it is the overall peacefulness that provides an unforgettable get away from it all holiday.

Due to the remote location of the chateau, we recommend you bring a car. Car rental is possible at the airport or the toulouse train station.

About History

This splendid Château, first built in 1544 by a famous family of glass manufacturers, is situated in the heart of the peaceful and romantic Couserans. During the centuries, it was often modified until at the end of the 19th century, by adding the south western wing with the enormous winter garden, it looks as it does today. Napoléon III often stayed in the Château de Poudelay when he was travelling to Spain. One suite was always on his disposal, it's our ' Chambre Napoléon '. The interior has many attractive original elements, i.e. marble fireplaces in almost all rooms, original wallpaper in the 'Petit Salon', huge wooden stairs, parquet floors and the old kitchen. Most impressive are the 'Jardin d'Hiver' (Winter Garden) with its splendid French windows and the enormous fireplace.
