Local Area DetailsDominated by Windsor Castle, Windsor is a popular town with interest throughout the year. Dating back to William the Conqueror, the Castle’s site was chosen for its commanding position above the surrounding land. Today it is a favourite Royal residence and is the largest inhabited castle in the world.
On the approach to the Castle, a statue of Queen Victoria looks timelessly down Windsor’s mail shopping street, Peascod Street. The town features a wide selection of shops and restaurants while, towards the Thames, a pleasant evening may be enjoyed at the Theatre Royal.
The Thames offers scope for walks, river trips or just relaxing. Over the bridge lies Eton, home of the famous College for five and a half centuries. A walk up Eton High Street yields the delights of many antique shops.
