1. Environment

Wanaki is the Algonquin word for a 'serene state of being' and that's what Wanaki evokes. We are at the end of a wooded rural cul de sac 30 minutes from downtown Ottawa in the scenic Pontiac of West Quebec. Wanaki's decks and porches overlook a private sandy beach, a 40 km. panoramic view of the Ottawa River and dramatic sunsets. We offer quiet seclusion, in a Viceroy home. With a smoke-free house (and decks), it is wood-heated in winter and air-conditioned in summer. We host retreats, parties, family reunions and meetings.

2. Activities

In winter, guests enjoy the indoor swim spa (chlorine-free) and cross-country skiing on the river.

In summer, one can go swimming, sailing, canoeing, and fishing, play beach volleyball, croquet or horseshoes and relax by the campfire. Nearby are the Luskville Falls and Gatineau Park.

Since we are upriver from Ottawa-Gatineau, the swimming is fine. I have a raft anchored in about 12' of water 100' out in front of the beach. For the first 75' off the shore, the water in is shallow and suitable for young children.

The swim spa operates all year. However in summer, the temperature moves from about 38 to about 32 degrees Celsius. Bring your bathing suit.

3. Layout

The downstairs opens out on the beach and has about 1600 sq. ft.

Guest's Kitchen (13'x13'): full size, dishwasher, fridge, stove, microwave, blender, two coffee makers, tea pots, dishes, glasses and cutlery, a full range of pots and pans, salt and pepper, sugar and flour, some spices, tea towels and garbage bags.

Lounge (14'x27') and Dining Room (11'x13'): table and chairs for everyone, TV, (Bell ExpressVu) VCR, DVD, 300 movies, CD player & Radio, Super Nintendo.

Bathrooms: one 4 pc. and one 3 pc.

Laundry: washer and dryer

Swim-Spa: indoor giant hot tub - 12' x 8'x 4' heated to body temperature during the winter, cleaned with ozone – no chlorine, no bromine – free of chemicals.

Your host lives upstairs with his two 'Benji'-like fluffy-duffy dogs. It is possible to discuss bringing your dog or cat (1).
