Hillside Cottage is situated within the half acre grounds of the main house in the West End of Ampleforth within the boundary of the National Park. An attractive refurbished cottage built of local stone with pantile roof, converted from an old barn and surrounded by an area of outstanding natural beauty. Accommodation consists of an oak beamed living room/galley style kitchen area with open stone walls. An attractive hall and staircase leads to two snubly furnished bedrooms (one double and one twin). The downstairs bathroom with toilet and shower also houses an automatic washing machine. With night store heating and fitted carpets throughout the cottage has a warm comforting appeal.
Ampleforth has many walks with breathtaking scenery, but be warned, most are uphill. The village shop/post office and churches are within easy reach. The college, one mille down the road offers a gym, sporting activities and indoor swimming pool. The two Inns offer excellent meals and bar snacks, and there are several places within a few miles fadius of Ampleforth that can be highly recommended for good "Pub Grub".
The area offers hills, moor land, rivers and lakes. The flora and fauna abound with deer, badger, fox and may varieties of birdlife.
There are many local attractions including musemus, golf courses, potteries, steam railway and not forgetting the beautiful and historic cities of York, Ripon and Harrogate. Several country houses, abbeys and castles (including Castle Howard) are open to the public. Ideally situated for walking, the coast, yorkshire moors and dales.
