Holy House Glengarriff Co Cork Ireland
Holy House
House in Cork, Ireland
Property Details
Situated adjacent to the golf course, overlooking Glengarriff Harbour, Holly House is our largest 3 bedroom house - luxuriously furnished in every detail. Complete with two terraces on different levels and surrounded by the estate's lush 150 year-old woodland.A fully equipped kitchen, spacious dining/living room with open fire, under-floor heating, 3 large bedrooms (each with bathroom en suite), sauna, satellite TV, video, telephone and fax.
Local Area DetailsThis is truly a club with a view! Glengarriff's nine holes are in one of the loveliest settings in Ireland, with scenic views abounding - the one from the fifth tee is exceptionally beautiful.
The grassy lane between the second and third holes is part of the historic ancient road between Adrigole and Bantry which also comes up by the trees which run across the course near the eight and ninth holes.
The Clubhouse was opened in 1989 by the Club's Honorary President, Dr Maureen O'Hara-Blair, the famous filmstar. Visitors are always welcome, and generally may play all day. Clubs are available for hire.
The State Forest is a magnificent example of a mature oak woodland, and lies in the heart of the old Glengarriff valley where the observant visitor can trace relics of older settlements. The forest has been enhanced by complementary new planting which provides an interesting and attractive treescape for visitors to enjoy. There are many paths, with convenient picnic areas, and several viewpoints within easy reach. Perhaps the most well-known of these is Lady Bantry's Lookout, which gives a panoramic view across the Bay and up to the bulwarks of the Caha Mountains. The forest was once part of the Bantry Desmense but (apart form a small private section) is now owned by the State.
There are public roads leading into the forest about a mile north of the village on the Kenmare road, and about half a mile west on the Castletownbere road - both are signposted. The forest is perfect for short excursions on foot or cycle, and there are a number of roads. If you are driving, please take care and drive slowly, the better to enjoy the scenery. The rivers provide a number of shallow bathing places, and for the angler there are rainbow and brown trout in abundance, fishing permits are needed, and these are available in the village.
