Our apartments are fully self contained, with a well equipped kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher) and laundry (easher, dryer, tub) contained within the apartment. Sleeping configuration is a queen size double bed in the main bedroom with twin singles in the second bedroom. (configuration changes - 2 doubles, 4 singles etc - can be provided subject to prior arrangement)There is a seperate Lounge & Dining area. Pay TV is free.
All living areas are air conditioned, and have ceiling fans.
The complex is situated approx 2kms or 25 mins walk from the heart of the Cairns CBD, and is handy to Cairns Airport - about 5 mins by car.
We have a tour desk and most tour operators pickup & return to our front gate. For those preferring to drive themselves about, we can arrange your hire car for you, and there is ample off street parking within the complex.
There is a large Barbeque for guests use situated beside our large saltwater pool.
Tradewinds McLeod is the ideal economical accomodation for families or couples travelling together.

Local Area Details

Cairns is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, Many tourist boats depart daily carrying divers, snorkellers, fishermen, etc to that natural wonder. Cairns is also the hub for all the land based attractions of Queenslands Tropical North including Mossman Gorge, Port Douglas, Cape Tribulation & the Daintree to the North, the Atherton Tablelands & Savanah County to the West, and the mighty rivers Johnstone, Tully & Russell to the South. Nearby Kuranda is world renowned for it's village market atmosphere, and access there is a short scenic train ride up the Barron Gorge, by the famous Skyrail, or a 20 minute drive by road.
The Cairns Convention Centre is world class, and many conventioneers are now coming to Cairns on a regular basis - Tradewinds McLeod is only a $10 cab ride from this venue.
Whilst the metropolitan area of Cairns does not have any swimmable beaches, we are only 5 - 20 mins drive from a number of excellent beaches streching up the coast towards Port Douglas (40 mins)
The Cairns Esplanade stretches for approximately three kilometers of grassy park from North Cairns to the Marina which services the Reef fleet. In the middle is the famous "muddies playground" - a play ground where the kids will happily lose themelves for hours - giving adults a chance to put there feet up for a breather.

About Weather/Climate/Temperature

Being in the tropics, Cairns is very rarely cool. Day-time temperature extremes are 20 to 35 degrees throughout the year - most days are in the 28 - 32 degree range. Evenings are generally balmy - there is little need for warm clothing. Seasoned travellers travel light to Cairns. Dress at most venues is casual & informal - T shirts, Golf shirts, shorts are acceptable almost everywhere. It rains in Cairns throughout the year but is particularly heavy during 'The wet' - which is about Feb to May each year. Great for the rafting enthusiasts & divers don't really care. The rain is not unpleasant and is not much of a discouragement of the dress code.
