Property Details
Castle Foot is a comfortable and well-furnished house in a quiet street at the base of the castle mount. This is in the centre of the ancient town of Totnes, just three minutes' walk from the town's unique shops. The house has been awarded four stars by VisitBritain, the official tourism agency. It has a large master bedroom (double bed) with a full en-suite bathroom, two twin-bedded rooms and a single, plus another bathroom. A sofa-bed in the lounge is also available for an eighth guest. A cot, a high-chair and a stair-gate are available free on request. Parking for two private cars (maximum), one being in a garage - which is equipped as a play-room if not used for parking. Front and back gardens. Wooded views. Barbecue. Colour brochure on request.
Local Area DetailsTotnes has a striking Norman castle, an ancient Guildhall (still used)and a really beautiful river (the Dart). Famous Dartington Hall is nearby, with its lovely gardens, theatre, arts event and unique shopping. Wonderful walks all around. Dartmoor and many beaches and pretty villages are within short drives, and the Eden project can be visited by car or train easily within a day out.
Additional InformationAbout GolfingThere are several golf courses within a ten-mile radius, including Dartmouth Golf and Country Club (01803 712686) and Churston Golf Club (01803 842218).
About SailingGood sailing can be had at Dartmouth, Salcombe and other places around the coast and on the River Dart. Boating from Totnes on the Dart.
About TransportCastle Foot is about 8 minutes' walk from Totnes main-line railway station, which has direct (no changes) services to London, the Midlands, Wales, the North-West and North-East and Scotland. The town is about 30 minutes' drive from the A38 trunk road and a little further from the M5 motorway.
About BeachesThe South Hams peninsula has over a dozen beaches, many award-winning, all within a three-quarter-hour drive from Totnes. The nearest is at Paignton, 15 minutes away.
About Weather/Climate/TemperatureTotnes is at the head of the South Hams, which has the mildest climate in England. Storms and floods which sometimes hit North and West Devon are tamed as they pass over Dartmoor, and nearby Torbay has one of the highest sunshine records in England. I can't promise that it doesn't ever rain here though!
